Start from the lay by near Jacobstowe Mill and proceed
with the river on your left to pass over a low stile signed Tarka
Trail. From the stile look back under the old bridge on your left and you will
see that it was a pack horse bridge that has been widened sometime in antiquity
to take cart traffic. Keeping the river on your left cross a narrow footbridge into a
small field. At the kissing gate
follow the Tarka Trail with the river on your left to
reach a footbridge over the main river.
Cross the footbridge and continue on a clear path to reach Higher Cadham farm. An enclosure award at the AD1219 assize
enclosed the farmland at Cadham (Cada’s
land)
Pass through the farm-yard
turn left and follow the farm road to its junction with a minor road. Turn left and follow this road back to
Jacobstowe to emerge opposite the Old Rectory.
Turn left along the main road (take
care and keep a sharp look out for the traffic) to pass the church which in
the summer months is open for you to visit.
Continue along the main road down the hill to return to the lay-by.
