Walk 1

Starting from the Village Hall proceed up the road passing the Telephone Box on your left and at the T junction, go straight across keeping the red brick house (Hillside) to your right.  Continue up the narrow path (way marked as a footpath) and know as Dragons Lane to reach a kissing gate.

Go through the gate and keeping hedge and farm buildings on your left and continue through field until you reach a gate onto the road, turn left and pass the playing fields on your right.  Just past the playing field pass through a metal gate with a footpath sign.  Note….There are some excellent views along the valley to the high hills of Dartmoor in the distance here.

Proceed diagonally left across the field to reach two kissing gates pass through both of them and turn right along the farm track.  Continue and turn left immediately behind the first farm building on the left and pass through the gate (way marked).  Continue through two fields with the hedge bank on your right.

At the corner of the second field cross over the stile and turn left following the field edge until it meets with a farm track and continue through the farmyard.  (Shilstone Farm is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086AD.  The name Shilstone  (Shelf Stone) relates to the remains of a Neolithic Megalith which is thought to be nearby).  Then after the last building on your left turn left.  Continue along lane until the road is reached.  Turn left and follow this road to Exbourne Cross, cross the main road with care and continue along to return to the village hall.
